New Beginnings

So a little bit of time has passed since my last post but I wanted to have something to actually say for when I posted my next entry. So I finally got called back from the recruiter about the nurse externship. First of all, can I just say that I've never been so nervous in my life to receive a phone call. When this lady called me back, I got an instant case of Parkinson's disease (not to make fun of anyone who has it that's just how badly I was shaking!). She starts off by saying that she is calling me back to give me feedback about the position and in my head I'm like Crap! I didn't get it. So she goes on to say I'm happy to let you know that we are officially offering the position! I barely even heard her past "I'm happy" lol. I was doing somersaults and screaming on the inside and saying thank you on the outside which I still can't even comprehend how I managed to do both. THIS GIRL RIGHT HERE GOT AN EXTERNSHIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The program begins June 10 and is 8 weeks long. This summer is really going to be a fulfilling summer and I can't wait to get started. Words can't even describe how I feel! On top of that, I'm going to be on a telemetry unit (cardiac patients) which is exactly what I wanted. I'm really glad I'm getting a chance to do this because it puts me one step closer on my journey as a nurse. I was afraid that I wasn't able to clearly explain myself in my interview because I was so nervous. At one point though the director of nursing looked at me and was like "You really want this don't you?" and I was like yes I really do. Opportunities like this don't come very often for most people, especially with these nursing externships. Not only are you competing with students in different schools in the area and the rest of the state, but you're also competing against nursing students from out of state as well. So to actually get this is an amazing opportunity. I like that I am on a telemetry unit because I really am curious about cardiology so its a great chance to look into it but also from what I've read about it, it seems to be a step down from an intensive care unit but a step up from a regular unit. I'm just completely ecstatic like I've literally been on cloud nine since I got the phone call. To top off the good news, I took a test this past Tuesday and I got a 94 on it! And this class is an 8 credit class so that is really what I need. I also had an OSCE exam this past Friday which is basically a test of our assessment skills which I passed thankfully as well. Everyday I think to myself how lucky I am and can't help but smile. I'm pretty high off life right now but I guess I should float back down to earth and finish writing a paper I have due this week haha. Hey what can I say, I'm a work in progress (whose happy as hell!)...
